This substance generator is made to be used together with the 3D wood base material (sold separately) to output flat 2d square textures.
In the industry veneer wood is produced by peeling the skin of a log by rotating it.
Similarly the veneer generator output a position map that mimic this effect.
While it can tile horizontally if we use full turns (and exhibit symmetrical patterns) it can't tile vertically.
Attention: this product cannot generate veneer on its own, It needs a 3D Wood base material (like the 3D Oak Wood)

This product was previously working with the 3D Oak wood generator but now is a standalone generator.
More simple to use in Painter. In the near future I plan to re-work the noise functions so the tiling work vertically. Updates will be free.
This substance generator is using the 3D Oak wood internally to produce veneer in the same way it is done in the industry. In real life veneer wood is produced by peeling the skin of a log by rotating it. Similarly this node uses a position map inside that mimic this effect.
By using more than one turn in the 'peeling' process, we can develop the same pattern symmetrically, one the characteristic veneer can have. While it can tile horizontally if we use full turns it can't tile vertically. This limitation is due to the fact all noises must be periodic and that wasn't the intent at the beginning of the project. In the future shall this be rewritten the update will be free.
Since the generative part happen in 3d the virtual center for the trunk should be centered in the base material.
A slight misalignment in YZ can produce some interesting effects but knots projection get distorted as a result too.You can play with the geometry noises to get very different results.
You can use the provided color palettes or use your own colors. You have control also over the contrast and their frequency sizes.
