This Houdini digital asset (.hda) generates a wide range of shields based on user parameters.
The main purpose of this asset is to combine all the steps involved in creating a shield model into one procedural asset.
Includes 6 presets of iconic shield types: Heater, Kite, Hoplite, Scutum, Targe and Viking Shields.
A large amount of parameters which can be tweaked to the users liking.
Built in tooltips and help file for the major parameters.
The ability to divide the shield into separate planks for more detailed destruction simulation.
A toggle to output an optimized collider mesh for games.
Includes an example scene with a TOPS network setup that allows users to automate the generation of shields with different parameters.
This .hda is not black-boxed to allow modification and learning from the internals of the asset.
Requires any version of Houdini 17 or later to run. It works with any license type including the free apprentice license. Apprentice users are limited to .obj export only and rendering with a watermark.
Imagemagick is required to render a mosaic using TOPS in Houdini, this is free and easy to install
This is meant to streamline the modelling process however some manual editing may still be required for production ready topology and UVs.
I will be improving on this asset over time and adding more features.
