3ds Max Scripts for Substance Painter Texture Baking

Script Description

• These scripts automate several preparatory tasks for texture baking in Substance Painter.

• These scripts will save you time.

• Check 3ds max 2022 version or higher

Installation and Usage

• Place the scripts in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 202*\scripts\Startup.

• Go to Customize User Interface / Toolbars / Category / For SP texture baking and drag "For SP texture baking tools" to the toolbar to create buttons.

Menu Description

• Object Name Copy

  • Used to copy naming from a high poly mesh to a low poly mesh in Substance Painter.

  • Usage

    • Copies the naming of the selected high poly mesh to the low poly mesh among the two selected objects.

    • The following options are available:

      • Append '_low' to name

      • Remove '_high' from source name

      • Add '_high' to high-poly name if missing

  • Note: Undo is not supported.

• Object Random Name

  • Used to assign names to high poly meshes in Substance Painter.

  • Usage

    • Select multiple objects and click the button in the window to assign random 8-digit names.

    • Note: Undo is not supported.

• Random Color

  • Used to assign colors needed for creating ID Maps in Substance Painter.

  • Usage

    • Select multiple objects.

    • Click the "bring to tool bar" button to assign random base colors.

    • Note: Materials are only assigned as standard (legacy).
