✦ Realistic Edge Wear in One Click — Free Forever
MK Edge Wear is a free Blender shader pipeline that turns any clean material into a worn, weathered, lived-in surface — instantly. No node-graph wrestling. No copy-pasting. No catch.
Built and battle-tested in production at 3DRedbox Studio. Now released free for the entire Blender community under GPL-3.0.
The problem
You spend hours stacking Pointiness nodes, fighting with Color Ramps, and untangling shader trees just to get a believable scuff on a corner. By the time the material looks right, the deadline's gone.
The solution
One button. Full procedural shader. Done.
✦ Features
🔘 One-click setup
Hit Make Edge Wear and the addon appends the full procedural network into your active material — wired, isolated, ready to render.
🎨 Dual-color wear system
Set a Main color (the surface) and a Peeled color (what shows through). Edge falloff is handled automatically — peeling appears exactly where it should.
⚙️ Geometry-aware edge detection
Powered by Pointiness. Works on any topology — high-poly, low-poly, sub-divided. Four parameters: Mask Radius, Scale All, Edgewear Size, Mask Power.
🖼️ Custom mask shape with X / Y / Z rotation
Load your own texture as the wear pattern. Auto-converted to Non-Color, wired through a Mapping node, with per-axis rotation control.
🔧 PBR controls in the Material slot
Roughness, Metallic, and IOR exposed directly on the group node — visible in Properties, Material, Surface. No subgroup digging.
🎯 Pre-tuned scratch system
Built-in procedural scratches network with production-ready defaults. Looks hand-rubbed, not computer-generated.
