A bright pane and a dirty pane do not need completely different materials. Window Glass Shader for Blender by 3D Tudor lets you build their differences from one reusable system: choose the glass finish, shape the edge treatment, then decide how dirt and wear vary from pane to pane.
The shader works with the Automatic Panes Geometry Nodes modifier on an open pane mesh. Disconnected faces or islands receive individual pane treatment. Five prepared windows and a lantern show the system in context, from pale panes to warm illumination and red diamond glass.
Control the boundary without losing the centre
Pane Edge Tint and Dirt Overlay are separate. Colour the glass boundary while keeping the centre lighter, or switch dirt off and retain the gradient. Basic, Rounded and Circular clear-centre shapes change how the dirty region surrounds the visible glass. Inward Dirt Reach, coverage and softness control its extent; inner and outer colours shape the transition.
Dirt has its own opacity, roughness and apparent grain relief. Per-pane pattern and coverage variation keep neighbouring panes from sharing the same marks. Two seed controls let you reshuffle the pattern and which panes are dirtier.
Build a surface, not just a colour
Cloudiness, frost, handmade ripples, scratches and speckles can be combined with the glass colour pattern and fine bump. Their controls let you keep broad unevenness separate from small surface detail. UV Offset Per Island changes pattern placement across disconnected panes; Wear Near Edges concentrates wear towards their boundaries.
Consistent World Scale can keep glass-detail size consistent across differently sized panes and objects. This affects the glass detail; the dirt layer keeps separate mapping. Surface bump and ripples alter shading rather than displacing the mesh silhouette.
Tune the light and reflection
Set glass colour, roughness and opacity for the main finish. Optional glow has independent centre and edge controls, alongside advanced reflection and metallic-mirror settings. Strong glow can hide subtle wear, so reduce it when judging scratches or ripples under side lighting.
Included in the download
The native Blender file contains the Automatic Panes system with 59 exposed controls, five window examples, a lantern and packed textures. A written guide and two silent videos accompany it: an approximately 7-minute-58-second controls demonstration and a 14-second preview. This is a reusable glass system, not ten separate glass presets.
Compatibility and workflow
Inspected in Blender 5.2.2 LTS, with a supplied Cycles scene and a completed Cycles render check of one window example. Earlier Blender releases and EEVEE are not verified. Raising Edge Mapping Quality increases geometry cost. Scratches or speckles can show shimmer at some Material Preview viewing angles; inspect the final finish in your intended lighting and render.
