A forgotten workshop. A family of mechanical daughters. A mystery hidden inside an artificial heart.
MECHANICAL SOULS is the first chapter of THE ODD LITTLE WORKSHOP, a whimsical visual storytelling series combining watercolor and gouache aesthetics, pop surrealism, retro-futurism, and mechanical fantasy.
The story begins inside a small, cluttered workshop where an elderly craftsman repairs and cares for a group of beautifully designed female androids. But these machines are becoming something far more complicated than their creator expected.
They become curious.
They discover rain, clothing, music, gardens, markets, festivals, friendship, and the strange rituals of everyday human life. Gradually, their world expands beyond the walls of the workshop.
Then one of the androids discovers an old message hidden near her mechanical heart.
What begins as a quiet story about artificial life becomes a journey into forgotten villages, abandoned machines, mysterious factories, and the hidden history of the first mechanical daughters.
Each image is designed as a small narrative moment rather than a simple character portrait, creating a collection filled with characters, environments, unusual machines, emotional scenes, and visual world-building.
This collection explores:
- Beautiful adult female android and cyborg designs
- Whimsical workshops and handcrafted technology
- Human and machine relationships
- Everyday life in a retro-futuristic world
- Mechanical creatures and forgotten inventions
- Identity, memory and artificial emotion
- Watercolor and gouache-inspired environments
- Cinematic visual storytelling
Ideal as inspiration and reference for concept art, character design, animation, game development, illustration, mechanical design, visual development and world-building.
MECHANICAL SOULS is ultimately not a story about machines learning to become human — it is about them discovering what it means to have a life of their own.
