Creating A Humanoid Rig In Houdini Using Apex

In this course we will be making an intermediate rig in Houdini using the APEX. This is a project based tutorial where we will be building three versions of the rig. These will be built using the APEX network scripting system, the APEX auto-rigging nodes and APEX script. This will be a fully custom rig and we will build a manual version of the rig in order to create the logic before applying it to the main versions of the rig.

The rig will be generated using a guide so this rig can be used for any humanoid character.

This rig will cover a basic humanoid rig set-up along with:

- Automatic shoulder raises

- Split leg knee deformation

- Elbow Pinning

- Control Generation

- Space Switching

The majority of the project was build using Houdini 20.05.370

This is an intermediate course and it does use Python and Vex scripts so some prior knowledge would be beneficial. This would include functions, loops and conditionals.

Knowledge of basic linear algebra like dot products, crossproducts, vector addition and vector subtraction would also be beneficial.

The mathematics and scripting is kept simple but it is unavoidable. The usage will become more complex as the project progresses.
