QUICK GUIDE: Press Enter or Click Generate to Generate rendered strands of enabled texture types. Save the HSD file (Bottom right) after making edits. Save your files to a separate folder from the program to avoid them being moved to local appdata folders. Play with the sliders, get used to them!
Hair Strand Designer creates hair strands in the form of 4k texture maps ready for placing onto your hair cards. It produces an RGB Masking system for Color Variation(red channel), Root Mask(green channel) and Tip Mask(Blue channel) This masking system is designed for shaders where you want to control the colors directly in a game engine or even via Photoshop. It does produce a Color Map which uses the RGB masking technique just mentioned, it also creates a Normal Map, Depth Map, ID Map and Mask Map, New: AO map and Flow map. You have control of waviness, tapering, scale, variation, coloring, spacing, thickness, length and number of strands in 8 possible sets.

Processing your textures created in Hair Strand Designer using Photoshop (optional):

Functions: F1 - View/Enter custom seed value (Randomization ON creates a new seed number, enter your own seed number then disable Randomization, then click generate to see your own seed value represented).
Once generated, save out your maps and recombine them however you like in Photoshop/Gimp.

Potentially you could also use these generated hairs as brushes or for other nice painting effects!
Hair Textures Generated with this tool can be used either personally or commercially based on the purchase tier, if it's just for hobby/folio work, the standard licence will be fine for you. Please note that a major update is currently in progress and will not be ready until around December of 2020, this is due to a reworking of the main algorithm, the core of what makes the strands look the way they do. As well as many requested features and general improvements and a completely new set of parameters that will need to be saved and loaded, this will make the new version incompatible with the current one, however, if you have already bought HSD, you will get this major update free, so you will have both versions for the price you pay now.. I am currently working on another product called Blit Paint, which was planned well before Hair Strand Designer came around. It is used to help 2D design and beginner artists, this, plus other work and a need to take a small break from working on Hair Strand Designer has amounted to a delay to HSD2's development. I will be putting to good use anything I learn in the production of Blit Paint. Also, I hope to be able to allocate more time as I will be changing my day-job hours to some degree from September as right now I have been working 2 jobs fulltime as well as maintaining asset stores and employees. I am slowly building up a business that will eventually be a mix of Art tools, oursourced art and asset packs and also providing artists for your requirements.

Re-optimised initial settings for 'preview strand counts' for more stability on medium-low spec machines:
maxPreviewStrandsPerSet=8 // NUMBER OF PREVIEW STRANDS (8) lower is more optimised
optimalStep=64 // for optimising the display update (16) higher is more optimised - increased to 64, preview strands look more line-dash. Use CTRL+MouseWheel up/down to change, value disaplyed on top-right of UI for debug control.
Max Framerate increased to 590fps (although you will not likely reach this, it is the most stable value in this case).
