Hello, I would first like to thank you for your interest.
Painting for me has been a challenge early in my studies, i would think if i was a good artist, I should be able to make a good painting with one brush alone. I would be working on a piece and struggle with different areas, but i thought the struggle was good and I was learning.
What I now realize is that having a variety of brushes that you know is good for certain areas is best. The tool does not dictate the quality, but the tool does influence how you work.
Looking at this new perspective i learned that if i had different brushes with certain strengths, I would be able to problem solve more efficiently. You might have downloaded some brush packs in the past with a variety of brushes. Some very oddly specific that you might not know the use for them.
My brushes focus on Basic Shapes and Edges. Each brush has a workable quality for different types of Subject matter you will encounter. If you're tackling something soft or hairy, a rougher edge brush with bristles would be good. If your tackling something that is more smooth, then a brush that can make clean shapes and edges are more suitable.
Included are 3 smudge brushes, each with different strengths. I did not understand the Smudge tool until recently from my instructor, Marco Bucci. I would begin smudging the colors or subject of the painting with no consideration to the shapes that make up the form. I was having trouble understanding the use of the smudge tool, but was still very interested in using it.
The smudge tool is best for handling transitions. I thought painting in photoshop was more like laying pixel of value and transitioning it gradually. this slow process is actually where i found the most use of the smudge tool. You first block in with the brush tool, and then you slowly consider the edges. This has given me much more freedom and expression using this method.
I hope these brushes help you, I put care into crafting each. Each brush has a different strength. Try varying the size of some and they are good drawing brushes. Some of the softer opacity brushes are good to use almost as a digital marker and block in. Experiment a little and if they aren't quite working for you, try changing it.
