What are trim sheets?
Put simply, trim sheets are extremely detailed textures.
In more advanced terms, instead of having to model in intricate details manually onto your objects, which can be time-consuming and heavy in terms of polycount, you can create a trim sheet with these details and unwrap the texture over the model.
The benefit is that there is no additional poly count on your scene (since it is an unwrapped texture), and you have a completely reusable set of details for any of your projects.
Where and how can I use them?
Trim sheets can be used on every 3D software or Game engine like Blender, Maya, Unreal…
You just need to connect the different texture maps into the Principled BSDF node like any PBR material creation.
If you have Decal Machine, use the N-DecalMachineTrimSheet1.zip file, extract, copy, and paste the toe folders titled "N Trim 1" and "N Trim 1 SP" into your decal machine Trims folder. By default, this is at the following file path: Users/Your PC/AppData/Roaming/Blender Foundation/Blender/BlenderVersion/scripts/addons/DecalMachine/assets/Trims
Refresh Decal machine library in blender preferences
You’re done!
