Job Description

As part of the Avatar Project, you'll play an instrumental role in bringing to life the beautiful and dangerous world of Pandora. This is a unique opportunity to keep growing your experience in games while working hand-in-hand with Disney’s creative minds and James Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment.

As a Lead Concept Artist at Massive you'll mentor, manage and support a team of Concept Artists to help us enhance, design and create the immersive world of Pandora. You’ll work closely with the Art Director to realize their vision and share this feedback with the team. You will also collaborate with other multidisciplinary Leads, guiding concepts for environments, props, and characters within the Avatar lore.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and developing high-quality Concept Art for a AAA game under the Avatar IP;
  • Providing constructive Art feedback, mentoring and coaching a team of Concept Artists;
  • Ensuring a productive internal workflow and beneficial relationships with internal/external partners, and CoDev studios:
  • Prioritizing, managing and planning the team’s day-to-day tasks;
  • Ensuring deliverables are completed on-time and to specification;
  • Working together with Producers, Leads, Directors and other teams to push the quality of the project.

Skills & Requirements

You're organized, empathic and have great communication skills in English (our company language), which enables you to build trust with your team and the various stakeholders you’ll collaborate with along the way. You strive for an efficient pipeline, and your previous experience managing a team through a major game release has helped you understand; not only how to build one, but maintain an effective pipeline too, despite the typical game dev pitfalls. As an artist, you ideally have a combination of classical & concept art training, with a focus on games.

Besides the above we’re looking for someone aligned with our core values and the following skills and experience:

  • A relevant portfolio of artwork (must include Realistic/Stylized Realism Concept Art, and ideally, examples with a fluid/organic nature - remembering Pandora, "It's kinda the Garden of Eden with teeth and claws" James Cameron);
  • Proven experience coaching, mentoring and providing feedback to a team of Artists;
  • Proven experience developing Concept Art for major productions across several development cycles;
  • A relevant degree in Game Art, Art, or the equivalent work experience;
  • Ability to create environment, character, and prop concept art to AAA standard;
  • Advanced understanding of composition and lighting.

Additional Information

  • Relocation assistance is offered

About the Company

Massive Entertainment is a world-leading AAA studio located in Malmö and part of the Ubisoft family. We are a multinational team of more than 600 passionate and highly skilled people from more than 45 different countries.

Our studio is a creative and devoted workplace. It’s full of dedicated game developers, game designers, programmers, and character artists (to name a few of our job roles!). What we all have in common is that we enjoy what we do and that we do everything with drive and enthusiasm.

WHAT IS IT LIKE WORKING AT MASSIVE?

At Massive, you get to do what you love the most while bringing your own exceptional performance into our ongoing projects, like Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, Avatar, Snowdrop, or Uplay.

We want to hear your opinions. As part of the Massive family, you are encouraged to make your voice heard regardless of your position or how long you’ve been at the studio.

Curiosity is key in crafting the best games experience possible. It might sound strange, but we encourage you to take risks and to have the courage to challenge not only yourself in what you do, but also the ways we do things in the studio. And it’s okay if the risk results in failure.

Without failure, we can never grow in our roles or find new solutions to the challenges we face – together – every day. Be brave, because behind you, you have the support of the Massive family.

WE NEED YOU TO MAKE THE BEST GAMES POSSIBLE

Massive is growing – rapidly, and we are looking for the best talents to join our studio. With our move to our new office building Eden, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and the Avatar Project, we are heading towards an exciting future.

Do you want to join us on the journey?
