Job Description
Deviation Games is looking for a Senior Environment/World Builder Artist to join our growing team!
Responsibilities
- Create a wide variety of assets ranging from organics to hard-surface props and architecture- including ‘hero’ assets
- Ability to create realistic terrain geo for Unreal Engine 4
- Take assets as well as entire levels from design gray box to fully realized final levels
- Collaborate with artist and design to create a variety of beautiful/performant/cohesive levels
- Collaborate with disciplines across the studio to identify/address problems and provide solutions
- Work with art director/lead environment/design to maintain gameplay clarity and navigation during development
- Mentor best practices to other artists
- Prototype rough level layouts quickly and efficiently
- Layout and build levels from initial block out
- Understanding of level streaming setup and implementation
- Experience with modular level construction
- Quickly learn and adapt to art and production pipelines
Skills & Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in the games industry as an environment artist
- 2+ shipped AAA titles using modern production techniques, including: PBR workflow using Substance Designer/Painter for production ready assets
- 4+ years of experience with texture/ material authoring packages (Substance Designer/ Painter, Photoshop, etc.) in a production environment
- 4+ years of experience with major 3D software packages (Maya and ZBrush) in a production environment
- Experience creating and auditing packages for outsource
- Understanding of Asset Budgets and optimization for Unreal Engine 4
- Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Self-motivated problem solver, ability to work well independently
- Online portfolio (including notes on contributions towards images)
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in the games industry as a senior environment artist
- Excellent time management and work discipline
- Expert knowledge in major software tools (Photoshop/Max/Maya/Substance/ZBrush)
- Experience working with Photogrammetry assets
- Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine 4
- Strong compositional/design/color theory skills
- Expert level with texture/ material authoring packages (Substance Designer/ Painter, Photoshop)
- Sketch/model/concept ideas for 3D environments
- Animation rigging (understanding) and creating assets ready for animation in Unreal Engine 4
- Traditional art skills (figure drawing, landscape, painting, composition, perspective, etc.) a plus
- B.A. in fine arts or higher
