Job Description

Axis Animation are expanding their Senior team and are looking to hire experienced LEAD STORYBOARD ARTISTS to lead project based story teams on an ongoing freelance basis.

This role requires a skilled boarding artist with a broad background boarding different types of formats and narratives.

You’ll be a personable, pro-active, self starter who can motivate and lead the team around you as well as work with the project Director to realise his vision and ensure the standard and quality of the storyboards are consistently high.

Prior Lead experience is a must and a good understanding of the animation pipeline including pre-production, production and post-production is also necessary.

Candidates must be willing and able to work onsite in Glasgow, and have relevant visas in place permitting this, if required, at time of application.


Managing a team of storyboarders, keeping them on track and motivated
Quality controlling storyboard output on assigned project including adhering to basic story roles, visual language and character performance
Feedback and managing creative and technical challenges on project alongside the CG Supervisor and Dept leads
Liase with production on task assignment and scheduling of the team
Interpreting and communicating the director feedback and vision to the team
Advanced level of storyboard production, including thumbnails through to finished storyboard panels
Assisting with visual exploration, research as required by the story during visual development/pre-production
Generating creative ideas

Skills & Requirements


Ability to analyze script pages and translate into storyboard panels
Ability to express story and character through drawing
Ability to invent action and express it through drawing
Ability to present work in a clear and entertaining way
Ability to prioritize appropriately and always meet deadlines
Excellent teamwork – ability to work effectively with others
Ability to work under pressure, in a deadline driven environment
Experience with Photoshop is a must
Good communication skill and ability to work interactively with production, direction and other departments to solve production challenges
Strong leadership skills and the ability to confidently lead a team
Strong understanding of the principles of animation: emotion, acting and movement
Good knowledge of cinematography
Proven production experience within a team min. 5 years
