Job Description
ASC is seeking a hardworking groom artist to help realize our characters and creatures inside of Unreal. The job will require working closely with character artists and riggers to create visually stunning engine characters and creatures. These characters would mostly be used in high-end cinematics rendered in engine. The contract for the job would run an initial 2-3 months but if the job works out it would quickly develop into a full time and permanent position as ASC is currently staffing up.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Art Director and Character team to develop grooms and fur that work well in engine (4.26 and soon UE 4.27 and UE5)
- Creating grooms that are either card or strand based.
- Work with asset artists and give constructive feedback to ensure the groom will functional correctly inside of Unreal.
- Creating grooms in Xgen/Yeti/ Ornatrix to bring into Unreal for final lookdev.
- Work with team to maintain decent performance on all next-gen platforms
- Communicate effectively with the team to fulfill the visual goals of in engine assets and animation
Skills & Requirements
Requirements
- Outstanding portfolio that demonstrates expertise in groom for engine.
- Strong understanding of current generation production workflows as they pertain to character asset, rigging and animation.
Preferences
- Understanding of engine hair physics for dynamics in engine.
- Strong 3D background as a generalist
- A passion for games and film
- Experience with cinematics a big plus
- Experience source control and asset tracking tools such as Perforce and Shotgun a plus but can teach this if necessary
